2012 Hybrid Cars

2012 will be the most exciting year in the history of hybrid vehicles. Several important new hybrid cars and plug-in hybrids, representing every major automaker, and then some, will be available for sale.

So, here's a run down on what to expect from 2012 hybrid cars.

In 2012, the 2012 Toyota Prius might no longer be the king of hybrid cars. By 2012, Toyota will be in full scale production of the 2012 Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid.

More important, Toyota will have several new Prius-derivatives on the market. The larger Prius V will be available in late 2011, while the smaller, urban orientated Prius C will arrive later in 2012.

Additional Toyota offerings will include the 2012 Toyota Highlander hybrid and the 2012 Toyota Camry hybrid.

Toyota's luxury brand, Lexus, will also offer several hybrid choices. The 2012 Lexus RX 450h, the 2012 Lexus 250 h hybrid, the 2012 Lexus 600h L hybrid, and the 2012 Lexus GS 450h hybrid could be joined by at least another 2 Lexus hybrids.

While the 2012 Honda Insight is probably the closest thing to a natural Prius competitor, sales of the Insight are not nearly as robust as the Prius. The 2012 Honda CR-Z hybrid will provide a nice spark to pick up for the Insight's slack in 2012, but the real Honda hybrid buzz in 2012 will be based around the 1212 Honda Fit hybrid -- or more precisely, whether or not Honda will bring the Fit hybrid to the US. Unfortunately, some reports suggest the Fit hybrid won't make it stateside until at least 2014.

Additionally, Honda will offer the 2012 Honda Civic hybrid.

Ford will continue to produce the 2012 Ford Fusion hybrid, and its very similar cousin, the 2012 Mercury Milan hybrid. Additional offerings include the 2012 Ford Escape hybrid and the 2012 Mercury Mariner hybrid.

Furthermore, in 2012 a new dedicated Ford hybrid, the C-Max hybrid, is expected, which might also be Ford's first lithium-powered hybrid. Likewise, a plug-in hybrid version of the C-Max hybrid is also expected.

While GM's BAS mild hybrids took a break in 2010, several new lithium-powered BAS hybrids should make their debut in 2012. Likewise GM will still offer a number of dual mode hybrids. The 2012 Chevy Silverado hybrid and the 2012 GMC Sierra hybrid were the first hybrid trucks sold in America. Additional offerings include the 2012 Chevy Tahoe hybrid, the 2012 GMC Yukon hybrid, and the 2012 Cadillac Escalade hybrid.

And, of course there is the 2012 Chevy Volt, which could be joined by the 2012 Cadillac Converj, and there is also the possibility of a dual mode plug-in hybrid.

Chrysler should still be offering the 2012 Dodge Ram hybrid.

Thankfully, the 2012 Hyundai Sonata hybrid will finally bring Hyundai hybrids to the US market, and a few other Hyundai hybrids, including a diesel hybrid could be on the way as well.

The 2012 BMW X6 Active hybrid was BMW's first hybrid. In 2012, two new BMW hybrids will also be on sale.

Mercedes, on the other hand, is offering both the 2012 Mercedes S400 hybrid and the 2012 Mercedes ML450 hybrid.

Stay tuned for more 2012 hybrid vehicles.
